What Does a Physical Therapist Actually Do? (And Why I Do Even More)

If you’ve ever been to physical therapy—or thought about it—you might picture a room full of exercise bands, balance balls, and maybe a few people doing stretches with someone watching from across the room. And hey, I'll be the first to admit, that’s not wrong… but it barely scratches the surface.

As a Fellowship-trained physical therapist—and currently the only one in Tipton County (other than Jamie)—I want to break down what physical therapy really is, and how my advanced training allows me to do even more for my patients.

🚨 First: What Even Is a Physical Therapist?

At its core, physical therapy is about helping people move better and feel better. That could mean recovering after surgery, managing chronic pain, preventing future injury, or just being able to live your daily life without struggling through every step or movement.

Physical therapists are movement experts. We assess your muscles, joints, nerves, and movement patterns to figure out why something hurts—not just where it hurts. And then we work with you to fix it, not just mask it.

🔍 So What Makes Me Different?

I’m not just a licensed physical therapist—I’ve completed a fellowship in orthopedic manual physical therapy. That’s the highest level of clinical training available in our field. Fewer than 1% of PTs nationwide go this route, and in Tipton County guess what… I’m it.

What does that mean for you?

  • More accurate diagnoses: I don’t just treat symptoms. I look for the root cause—often something missed by scans or standard exams.

  • Hands-on care: Manual therapy, joint mobilizations, manipulations, and advanced soft tissue work are a big part of what I do.

  • Faster results: With deeper understanding comes more precise treatment. That often means fewer visits and more progress.

  • Problem-solving for the tough cases: If you’ve tried PT before and it didn’t work, this level of training might be the missing piece.

🧠 Physical Therapy Is More Than Exercises

Yes, we’ll probably give you exercises (it would be weird if I didn't). But a good PT program is about how, when, and why you’re doing them—combined with hands-on care, education, movement retraining, and support.

In my clinic, you get a one-on-one approach that’s grounded in advanced training, experience, and a serious passion for solving complex cases. I don’t just follow a protocol—I build a plan specifically for you.

🗺️ The Only Fellow in Tipton County—And Proud of It

I will be the first to admit, there are great providers out there, but very few have pursued the kind of training I have. I didn’t do it for the letters after my name—I did it because I wanted to offer something better to my patients. If you’re dealing with pain, weakness, instability, dizziness, or you’ve just been told to "live with it"—don’t. Come see what specialized care can do.

💬 Have Questions? Reach Out

If you're not sure whether PT is right for you, or if you’ve had a bad experience with it in the past, I invite you to stop by or give us a call. You deserve a second opinion that actually means something.
